Visionary
(Photographed at Graceland, Memphis, 2000)
Polymer gravure print, edition of 42
Signed, titled and dated in pencil on print recto
43 x 57 inches framed
This photogravure triptych speaks to Elvis’s large and mysterious presence. A brooding young Elvis appears seated in a chair, his right hand folded and resting against his right cheek, staring at the viewer. As Elvis’s face grows larger and larger into the bottom-most frame, the image blurs and loses its identity. This is reflective on how, as Elvis became more and more famous, as he became “larger” as a celebrity, his own identity became lost inside the persona created from him.
